What loves food and a quiet classroom (and it's not a teacher!)

Today Onnah and Kairu showed us their lovely guinea pigs.

Harvey's famous Grandad

On Monday morning Harvey showed us a medal that his Grandad won at the Olympic Games! His Grandad's name is Graham Condon. What an awesome achievement!

Happy Valentine's Day

Today we made butterflies in class. We wrote our names on them, coloured them in and then we put glue and glitter on. Mrs Simmons gave us a lolly pop to thread through the middle.

Cicada knowledge

We used the SOLO describe ++ map to help us organise our ideas about cicadas. This is what we knew:

What do you see?
The cicada has 5 eyes and 6 legs.

The cicada has wings.
The cicada sheds it’s skin.
The cicada digs holes.
The cicada has 4 wings.
The cicada has light and delicate wings.
Baby cicadas can’t fly. They fall off the tree.
The cicada sticks to everything.
The cicada lays eggs.
The cicada makes noise.
Why do you think it is like that?

It is like that because...

The cicada needs 5 eyes to see well.

It was born with 2 eyes and when it grew up it grew 3 more eyes.

It has 5 eyes because it was born that way.

It has wings so it can fly.

It sheds it’s skin so it can grow.

It has 6 legs because it is an insect.

It digs holes so it can make a home.

Their shell are like a skeleton.

They need 5 eyes so they can see properly.

They have light wings so they can glide through the air.

It doesn’t see well if it has 2 eyes.

Baby cicadas have no wings so they can’t fly.

It needs to stick to trees so it can shed it’s skin.

Because they like babies.

It makes a noise to say hello to the girls.

Next we will write about our wonderings and then we will try and find out different ways to find answers to our wonderings.

Welcome cute kitten!

Today Jonty showed us his beautiful kitten.

It's cicada time

In class we have been sharing our knowledge about cicadas. Many children knew some very interesting information. We used the SOLO hexagons to group our ideas. We are also wondering about some of the facts we learned and we are thinking about how we can find out more information.

Magic beads?

Mr Yardley gave our class a magic bead each. We looked at them and we had some wonderings.

  • Why are they magic?
  • How are they magic?
  • Can they glow in the dark?
  • What magic does it do?
  • How did you know they are magic?
  • What are they made out of?
  • Will the magic beads turn the classroom into a castle?
  • How did they make the hole through it?
  • Will it turn our classroom into a chocolate factory?
We are going to observe our beads over the nest few days and see what happens.

What could this be made of?

Today Mrs Simmons showed us a special stone that is on the science table. We guessed what it might be made of and then we voted. Mrs Simmons then told us that it was not made of ANY of the things we thought it might be made of! Can you find out what it might be made of and let us know?

Busy, busy, busy!
