How to clean a fish tank using a syphon

How to clean a fish tank.

Equipment
  • syphon
  • bucket
  • net
  • fish tank
  • a container (to put the fish in with water in it)
  • cloth (for wiping spills)
Method

  1. Unplug and remove the bubble machine.
  2. Use the net to remove the fish and put it in the container filled with water.
  3. Put the big end of the syphon in the tank. Put your thumb on the small end of the  syphon and fill with water.
  4. Carefully put the small end of the syphon into the bucket and put the big end into the tank.
  5. Move the syphon up and down on the stones so the dirty water flows into the bucket.
  6. Continue until all the water is in the bucket.
  7. Carry the bucket outside and pour the dirty water on plants in the garden.
  8. Refill the fish tank with water.
  9. Turn on the bubble machine and leave for a while.
  10. Put the goldfish back into it's clean tank.
  11. Now your goldfish has a clean tank.

Special thanks to Isabel, Sarah (Samuel's Mum), John (Lucy's Dad), Lachlan our photographer and all the Room 15 children who helped - especially Abe who didn't complain when Mrs Mrs Simmons accidentally wet him!
